I don't read a lot of short fiction, though I'm starting to read more on my Kindle. This story, originally published in the KILLER YEAR anthology, edited by Lee Child, was my latest foray into the short form. But unlike most short fiction, this one read like a mini-novel. Short, punchy chapters in Browne's signature lean style kept me rolling through, wondering how he would pull off this thriller in such small space. Jennings is a great character. Flawed, idiosyncratic, and original. Since this story is subtitled A Nick Jennings Thriller, I'm hoping Browne plans to bring the character back again.A good read right before bed, because you'll have to finish it in one sitting and it won't keep you up too late...except, perhaps, with anticipation for more Robert Browne stories.

Another great story from a master of storytelling. Thoroughly enjoyable! Totally believable characters involved in fast-paced, thrilling action from beginning to end. You can't help but get swept up in any story written by Robert Browne.

On the surface, Nick Jennings - a former cop haunted by his failures - makes for an unlikely avenger. However, when Holly Addison, an ex-prostitute and police informant, ends up dead, Jennings plunges headfirst into the case. The story moves quickly and offers an emotionally satisfying ending. I found Jennings easy to like because of his strengths and his flaws. Let's see more of this guy!
